Mission Farwell

So Heather has left me and went to Spokanne, Washington where her sister and her family live. One of our nieces is having her mission farwell on Sunday. One of my sister-in-laws was planning on going with her new baby, as well as Heather's parents. What wasn't general knowledge was that Heather's oldest sister who lives in Mississippi was flying out, and even fewer people knew that Heather was going. Heather was going to take her sister to the airport and then head to work. Instead she went to a parking lot where her car would be secure and they could catch a shuttle to the airport. It wasn't until they got there that my sister-in-law knew that Heather was going. I really wish that I could have gone, although I've spoken with Heather and some of my nieces several times since she arrived.
This leaves me home alone. I know that I realish planning all the things that I'd do when this time came, but when it actually comes, I find myself lonely. I know that sounds silly. But my home feels even more empty than normal. Even when Heather would normally be at work, the house feels empty.

Snow, shows, and setting goals

So today the wather started out quite nice, nice eneough that I didn't have to wear my jacket when I went to work this morning or when I came home. The wind was blowing pretty good, but it was still warm. After a while, I could hear the weather change, to what sounded like rain mixed with snow. When Heather came home and the two of us ran a couple of errands, the snow was falling sideways. Gotta love Utah weather!

On Friday night , we went to Kingbery Hall to see the Broadway production of Spamalot. My brother gave Heather the tickets for Christmas. In spite of what some people told us, we throughly enjoyed it. It was silly, and irreverant, but it was Monty Python.

So I've decided that I need to set a couple of goals for the rest of the year, and probably going forward. One of them is happening right now. I realize that this isn't a very interesting blog, however it is our blog and I really think that at least one of us should really take some kind of interest in it. Especially considering we had something like three posts all last year. The second is a little bit different for me, but I still consider it important. One of the girls that I work with as well as my sister-in-law are very into scrapbooking. Heather and I were for a while, but we've gotten out of the habit. Although there doesn't seem to be a whole lot to save in a scrapbook that I can think of off the top of my head, I'm sure that there exists quite a bit that we could do. Considering my interest in family history, a scrapbook and a blog are both ways of saving a part of us.

Cold in February

So here in Utah the temperature has been in the teens the last few days, getting even colder at night. Tonight it's supposed to get to zero degrees outside and the windchill is making it feel even colder. Having said that, when I came home today our thermostat said that was in the 50's in our house. I was thinking that it was due to the fact that I had turned down the heat in our house in an effort to save a little money. After a while I decided that I couldn't take it any more and decied that I needed to turn up the heat. When I did, nothing happened. I did several things to try to warm up our home. I called the gas company making sure that there wasn't any work happening in the area that would cause the issue.
The folks at the gas company were a lot of help, but nothing that we tried seemed to fix the issue. While talking to the tech, based on what I was telling her, that we have a defective igniter. Basically it means that the furnace can't come on. I tried calling a company to try to fix it, but I was unable to get any one to come out. We decided to go ot Wal Mart and get a couple of space heaters. It's not a great solution, but it should work for tonight.

January 2011, a new begining

So it's now 2011 and this is the first time that I've looked at this blog this year, and even in a while it seems. I was kind of suprised that we hadn't posted anything since April of last year. In a lot of ways it seems strange to even have this blog. There are so many people who have blogs about their kids or about their hobbies or even about their dreams. What do we have to write about?
We've come to something of a crossroads in our lives, and we honestly don't know which way to go. We can either stay on the course we are currently on, or we can take a very different path, at least for the time being. We have a few months to decide, although I know which way we're leaning. Our decision will have a long lasting affect, not just on us. That's why the decision will need to wait, we have some time.

Background Checks & PF Changs

Last Thursday Nick and I submitted our paperwork to get out FBI background checks done. We had to do this so we could get our Adoption profile re-posted on https://itsaboutlove.org/ial/search.jsf . It was an interesting process. I thought it would be alot harder. I'm just glad that we didn't have to get our fingerprints done with the ink. They use a special scanner. It was really cool to see how detailed the prints were.

After we got the important stuff taken care of, we went to see "How to train your Dragon" at the Gateway. It was such a great movie! I know that we will probably be mocked for this, but we did not see it in 3D.

The best part of the night is when we went to PF Changs for dinner. Nick had never been there and since I had my work anniversay dinner I needed to do before June it was the purfect place to go. Of course we had the lettuce wraps... I am getting hungry just thinking of them... Nick had the scollups, and we shared a chicken dish and a lo mein dish.

It was a great night to spend time outside and spend time with Nick.

New Post

I don't have a whole lot of time right now, but I've been told that this blog is seriously lacking. Espeically since the last time it was updated was in October of last year. I realize that sometimes things get left by the wayside, and this blog happened to be one of them. We're planning on getting our background checks done today so our adoption profile can continue. After that, we're planning on enjoying something of a date night. Heather has been with her company for over ten years and as a result she gets to be reimbursed for a dinner to congratulate her. We are planning on doing that tonight.

2009 Pumpkin Walk

The Pumpkin Walk was a sucess this year! Nick & I didn't carve as many pumpkins this year as we wanted, but I think we did a great job on the pumpkins we did carve.

This is the welcome pumpkins that I carve every year. Because they are stacked ontop of eachother, they are easy to tip over. So I spend each night standing next to them telling people not to touch them, that they are real pumpkins, and that there is a 2x2 holding them up. I love listening to all the compliments from people as they walk by.



Nick and I did a group together this year. We carved Phineas & Ferb pumpkins. What was cool about it is that his friend Sheldon also carved the same patterns from Phineas & Ferb. It was great! We took those pumpkins home to display on our steps for Halloween. I will post those pictures later.



One fun thing that happened this year was that the Alpine Garrison of the 501st came to entertain the crowds on Thursday & Friday.




Both Nick and I had a great time with our friends getting ready for the pumpkin walk, and we are already looking forward to next year.
